In her remarkable coaching debut, Head Coach Summer Driessen of Troy High School's Swim Team has been awarded the prestigious title of 2023 Freeway League Swim Coach of the Year. This recognition comes as a testament to Coach Driessen's exceptional coaching skills and her impactful leadership that has propelled Troy High School's swim program to new heights.
Coach Driessen, an esteemed Social Science AP teacher at Troy High School, assumed the role of head coach for the swim team, marking her entrance into coaching. Her coaching journey, coupled with her background in AP European History and Cambridge History, has been nothing short of extraordinary.
This accolade was bestowed upon Coach Driessen by her coaching peers from Fullerton High School, Sunny Hills High School, La Habra High School, Buena Park High School, and Sonora High School during the Freeway League Championship finals held at Troy's Aquatics Center.
From the outset, Coach Driessen identified and nurtured the immense talent within her swim team, guiding her athletes to break five school records and two league records. The team's achievements under her mentorship include remarkable personal best times, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
The results of Coach Driessen's coaching philosophy are evident, with the 2023 swim team being recognized as the fastest Troy High School has seen in over a decade. In addition to the Coach of the Year award, Coach Driessen has led her team to produce six All-League recipients and an impressive 11 CIF-SS D1 & D2 qualifiers, not to mention four swimmers who earned consideration times.
Under her guidance, the D1 boys' varsity secured a spot at the CIF State Championship in Fresno, propelling Troy High School to the #1 spot in the Southern Second D1 Men's category for SCY, Dual, and Championship. The team also clinched the #29 spot in California for Men's SCY, Dual, and the #37 spot for Men's SCY, Championship.
Coach Summer Driessen's impact extends beyond accolades and statistics. Her coaching style fosters a culture of excellence, teamwork, and personal growth, making her an invaluable asset to Troy High School's Swim Team and the broader aquatics community.
